Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

The Ghorepani  Poon Hill trek is a short trek to the heart of Annapurna. This trek offers a beautiful view of various mountains including the two eight thousand meter peaks; Annapurna I (8091 m), the tenth highest mountain in the world and Dhaulagiri I(8167m) the seventh highest mountain. The other mountains we will see are the Annapurna Massif, the Dhaulagiri massif and Fishtail which is the sacred mountain of Nepal. The trek will take 5 days and is relatively easy with lower altitude walking. This trek is suitable for anyone with a reasonable fitness level and by most age groups. Once at the top of Poon Hill, we can see the fantastic 360 degree view of the sunrise lighting the snow capped mountains with a beautiful pink hue. This is a sight that you will never forget.

The surrounding forest has more than 10 different varieties of Rhododendron and the area is transformed in the spring by the multi -coloured flowers.  We will see rice paddies set in terraces up the hillside, horses, buffalos and  cows belonging to the smallholdings  and  a variety of birds and flowers The farms,  terraces rising up the mountain, the various designs of houses and the local people  make this trek a photographers paradise. On the cultural side, we will have a chance to appreciate the beautiful Magar village in Ulleri and Gurung village in Ghandruk and get to know about the people and experience their Nepalese hospitality.

Accommodation During Trekking
During the trek, we will be staying at local teahouses. These offer accommodation and food served in a dining room which also functions as a social meeting place with other trekkers. All accommodation is on a twin shared basis. A single room is usually available at a little extra cost. The tour guide will arrange the best available accommodation in each village. As we advance to higher and more remote villages it may occasionally be necessary to share a room with more than 2 people. During the treks, most of the bathroom and toilet facilities are shared and toilet can be either a squat or a western toilet.

Meals During Trekking
In Kathmandu we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food such as Thali and Momo at a traditional Nepalese restaurant. For instance the Newari restaurant is a special place serving Newari food (the Newari are the indigenous people of the Kathmandu valley). Newari food is famous and unique. During the trek we will eat traditional Nepalese food as well as more international cuisine (Tibetan, Indian, Italian and continental). Dinner and breakfast will be taken at the teahouse where we spend the night and lunch at one of the trail teahouses.
