Mardi Himal trek with Poon Hill is a wonderful blend of exploring both southern scenic areas of Annapurna Himalayas. Although Poon Hill and Ghorepani are one of the most visited and popular regions for short trekking and views.

But the Mardi Himal region, compared to Poon Hill and Ghorepani gets fewer visitors, slowly getting popular among trekkers.

An amazing adventure to Mardi Himal trek with Poon Hill leads you to the serene countryside. Located on southern high hills of massive Annapurna Himalaya, with close views of Dhaulagiri and Manaslu Himalayan range. 

The first part of the adventure begins in beautiful Pokhara city and its scenic valley, where most treks start and end. The walk leads to typical country villages of Lumle and Mahabir in the least visited region by the main flow of trekkers.

As the walk follows into a dense woodland of lovely rhododendron and pine trees, and soon the tree lines fade. On reaching the high ridges of Mardi Himal View Point, stand beneath the towering South Face of Machhapuchare Himal. 
 The famous Fish-Tail peak that dominates the Pokhara valley and surrounding high hills includes close views of Mardi Himal.  

Mardi Himal is listed as a trekking peak of Nepal Himalaya at the height of 5,587 m and 18, 330 feet high. Situated next to giant Machhapuchare Himal at 6,993 m that soars high above Mardi Himal and its surrounding green hills.

After a wonderful experience reaching the highest spot of the adventure at Mardi Himal View Point. The next adventure leads to other scenic southern areas of the Annapurna Himalaya range to Poon Hill.

The walk follows through nice villages of Landruk, Jhinu village with a natural hot spring to enjoy a refreshing bath. As the route heads higher towards Ghandruk large village of Gurung people, then reaches the famous hill destination at Ghorepani village. Located at the base of scenic Poon Hill, next morning an hour climb up to Poon Hill. From the top catch the breathtaking views of stunning sunrise that reflects over 360° Himalayan panorama. Includes views of the world’s three highest peaks, namely Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Annapurna Himalayan range with majestic Machhapuchare Himal.

What to expect on Mardi Himal trek with poon hill:

Constant views of snow mountain range during most trekking days, walking around lovely hill villages. The mountain people around Ghorepani are Poon / Magar hill tribes that follow both Hindu and Buddhism religions. 

After Ghorepani village, most villages were inhabited by Gurung the main hill tribes of Annapurna Himalayas. Interwoven with Buddhism and the ancient cult of Bon religions. 

The lodges around Mardi Himal are simple and basic with common toilets and bathing. But clean and nice rooms serve good meals as per the food menu
served in a nice large warm dining room. Walking from villages to lovely dense rhododendron and pine forest with eye-catching mountain views.

Best Seasons OF Mardi Himal trek with poon hill:

Nepal has four main seasons, spring, summer/monsoon autumn/fall, and winter. The best time for treks and various adventures around the Himalayas as well as Poon Hill & Mardi Himal trekking. Is in spring and autumn/falls, where most days are clear and fine for views and pleasant walks.

Springtime when wildflowers are in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendron of various species and colours. Makes the hills alive with different flowers in bloom, the Ghorepani area is known as the world’s largest natural garden.

Spring begins from March till May, when days are clear most of the days with cloudy late afternoon. Chances of rain or snowfall sometimes, cold in the morning and night time, days are longer with enough sun-light hours.

Autumn/fall is another high season for Mardi Himal trek with Poon Hill.
 Most days are crystal clear for walks and views, but shorter days are due to sunlight hours. Colder morning and nighttime.

Interested people can trek in the winter times and also during Christmas and New Year holidays. Higher areas will be very cold in the morning, late afternoon, and nighttime, but clear with shorter days.

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu 1,350 m / 4,430 feet and transfer to hotel

On reaching Kathmandu at Nepal international airport, Open trail treks staff and guide receive you for a short transfer to your hotel. Located in the hub of Kathmandu city around Thamel an exciting place to be. Check into your rooms and join with other members for a trek briefing at the hotel meeting place. Our guide will provide short information regarding the trek, local lodges, and foods with do’s and don’ts.

Evening enjoys a typical Nepalese dinner with cultural programs from all parts of Nepal, as an introduction to Nepal heritage.

Day 2 : Cultural and Historical sightseeing tour and trek preparation.

The morning after breakfast, our city guide takes you to the heart of Kathmandu for an exciting tour. Visit of old palace courtyard around Durbar Square, as well residence of Kumari, the living virgin goddess. Includes various temples of great historical and religious interest, a short drive to Swayambhunath Stupa.

The oldest Buddhist monuments and famous landmarks of the country, from here tour of Bouddhanath with the world's largest dome stupa. Includes tour of the holy Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, and then back to hotel, rest of the afternoon free.

As well as for trek preparation and individual activities before dinner as per your chosen restaurants. 

Day 3 : Fly or drive to Pokhara 860 m-06 hrs

Depart from the hotel for an exciting overland journey to beautiful Pokhara, a drive of more than 6 hours.  Approx. 220 k.m. distance an interesting drive on main highway head towards Nepal Mid-West around Annapurna Himalayan region. Finally ending the drive on reach Pokhara by the serene Phewa Lake, where most good hotels are located.

Day 4 : Drive to Lumle 1,540 m and trek to Mahabir 1,720 m-05 hrs

Having hearty breakfast, morning a few hour drive beyond Pokhara city to a hill village of Lumle. From this nice farm village, a walk leads through cultivated farm terraces and into the cool shade of the forest. As the walk continues facing views of Annapurna Himalayan peaks, then reaching a small village at Mahabir for an overnight halt.

Day 5 : Trek to Pritim Deurali 2,050 m - 05 hrs

From this small farm village, a walk leads uphill on a stone-paved path for sometimes and then enters a dense forest. The trek follows on a quiet trail, hardly trekked by the main flow of trekkers on this hidden path. Slowly walk leads to climb into tree lines reaching Pritam Deurali for overnight, in the comfort of a simple nice lodge.

Pritam Deurali offers superb views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, the Annapurna range of peaks with towering Machhapuchare Himal, and the Fish Tail peak.

Day 6 : Trek to Kokar/ Forest camp 2,520 m-05 hrs

Morning enjoys views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayas, having breakfast, start the walk on leaving Deurali. From here leaving the main trail and villages off the beaten tracks into a dense forest. Covered in rhododendron, oaks and pine trees, after a few hours of gradual up reaching Kokar for overnight stop. Which is also called Forest Camp, a nice small temporary settlement with simple nice lodges.

Day 7 : Trek to Low Camp 2,970 m - 05 hrs

After a pleasant overnight, the morning begins with a climb into the dense forest. As the walk progress reaches a small settlement at Low Camp, a nice isolated place having few good lodges for overnight. This place is also called Badal Camp, due to heavy mist and fogs normally hang around this lovely spot amidst the forest surrounding.

Day 8 : Trek to High Camp 3,700 m - 05 hrs

follows a steep path on a high ridge. As tall trees slowly disappear for a smaller bush of rhododendron and juniper. After hours of good climb reaching the High Camp. Scenic and a wide-open place facing grand views of rolling green hills and snow-mountain range.

Day 9 : Hike to Mardi Himal View Point 4,500 m

From High Camp, start early for a long day hike to our first main highlight of the adventure. Start the walk with a slow and steady climb, then reach a lovely open high ridge at Mardi Himal View Point. The best place for a stunning panorama of the surrounding giant peaks of Annapurna Himalayas with majestic Machhapuchare and Mardi Himal.

Enjoy the breathtaking views from the highest point of the adventure, and then head back to High Camp for overnight halt.

Day 10 : Trek to Forest Camp- 06 hrs

An easy downhill back into dense tall tree lines and lush vegetation, on leaving the High Camp. The walk continues downhill then reaching Low Camp and then at Forest Camp for last overnight camp around the high hills of Mardi Himal.

Day 11 : Trek to Landruk 1,450 m-06 hrs.

After an amazing time around Mardi Himal and its high scenic ridges, from here our route diverts on a new trail. The walk follows on a winding path into dense woods facing views of Annapurna South and Huin-Chuli peaks. Then a long descent brings you to the large Landruk village for an overnight halt. The lodges are of a good standard with the comprehensive food menu.

Day 12 : Trek to Jhinu 1,700 m-05 hrs.

Morning enjoys the views of Annapurna South and Huin-Chuli peaks at close distance. Start the day heading down to cross a small bridge, and then through farm fields. The walk continues to cross another long bridge over Modi River reaching a small settlement at New Bridge. From here on a winding path and then up on stone steps and over a high bridge to Jhinu. A lovely village located on a high hill, a place with a natural hot spring to enjoy a refreshing dip in a warm pool.

Day 13 : Trek to Ghandruk-1,950 m-05 hrs.

From Jhinu walk uphill and then on a winding trail for short while, and then down to Kimrong River Valley. A possible lunch stop, afternoon an hour climb to Kimrong hill into a dense forest. Reaching the high ridge of Kimrong a small settlement with few tea shops and lodges. After a short rest head downhill and then on a winding path to Ghandruk for an overnight stop.

Ghandruk is a large Gurung village and the gateway to various adventures around the Annapurna region. At Ghandruk explore the village and observe the local farm life and culture. Visit the small museum with good information about the Annapurna region and of Gurung's traditional heritage.

Day 14 : Trek to Bhanthati Hill 2,230 m via Tadapani 2,660 m-06 hrs

Leaving Ghandruk village, morning climb up to an open high hill facing grand views of Annapurna Himalayan peaks. From here cross a stream a climb into a dense forest to a small settlement of Bhaise Kharka. Have a rest and continue on a pleasant forested trail to Tadapani for lunch stop. Afternoon walks a short descent to a stream and then climb into tall tree lines reaching Bhanthati. A nice settlement with many simple lodges, situated on a deep gorge.

Day 15 : Trek to Ghorepani village 2,780 m / 9,121 feet-05 hrs

Morning leads to a long climb into a gorge covered in thick forest of rhododendron and pine trees. After a few hours of steady climb, reaching on top of a hill at Deurali, a scenic spot for excellent views. Enjoy the grand panorama of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range of peaks with majestic Machhapuchare Himal. From Deurali a long downhill into the beautiful forest to Ghorepani for an overnight halt. Situated at the base of high Poon Hill. Have many good lodges with views of the Dhaulagiri Himalaya range, amidst beautiful rhododendron forest.

Day 16 : Hike to Poon Hill and trek to Hille 1,320 m-06 hrs

An early morning climb before breakfast to catch stunning sunrise, an hour hike up to Poon Hill. Which is at 3,210 m high, from Poon Hill enjoy a striking sunrise reflecting over a range of snow peaks from Dhaulagiri, Annapurna to Manaslu Himalayas. Includes majestic views of Machhapuchare Himal, the famous Fish Tail peak. After an enjoyable moment facing an amazing panorama, walk down to Ghorepani for breakfast. Leaving Ghorepani and Poon Hill on a pleasant winding path through lovely forest reaching Ulleri village. Having lunch at Ulleri, afternoon a long descent on stone-paved steps to Tirkhedhunga, a small village with beautiful waterfalls. After Ulleri a short walk down to Hille village for an overnight stop.

Day 17 : Trek to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara- 05 hrs

Our last day trek of the adventure, having breakfast walk downhill to low warm farm villages at Bhirethati. From here short walk to Nayapul and then a few hours drives to beautiful Pokhara for the last overnight stop. After a marvellous adventure on Poon Hill & Mardi Himal Trekking.

Day 18 : Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel-06 hrs

Morning departs from the hotel in Pokhara for the drive to Kathmandu, reaching by late afternoon and back to your hotel. The rest of the afternoon is free at leisure for individual activities and shopping for souvenirs.

Day 19 : Depart Kathmandu for international departure

Last day in Kathmandu and Nepal, as time for your international flight our staff and guide transfer you to the airport. For your international flight homeward bound, after a great wonderful adventure and exciting experience on Mardi Himal trek with Poon Hill.
